Call for Papers: Special Session @ BHI 2023: Trustworthy and responsible data analytics for mental health


This special session invites researchers to submit papers on ethical and societal challenges pertaining to the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in mental healthcare.

The special session will take place in IEEE-EMBS International Conference on Biomedical Health Informatics (BHI) (https://bhi.embs.org/2023/). Accepted 4-page papers will be published in IEEEXPlore as part of the conference proceedings.


The mental healthcare sector is widely adopting artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities that can support the realization of personalized prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, and provide valuable insights to clinicians. Despite the growing importance of AI technologies and their significant potential for increased social impact, risk management remains a less explored area due to the overall lack of capacity to address the full range of risks and unclear regulations that can vary from country to country.


We invite researchers to submit papers in the following areas:

1) Trustworthy and responsible AI for mental health

2) Security and privacy-preservation in multimodal data (e.g., speech, language, video)

3) Algorithmic fairness and bias in AI-based decision-making for mental health

4) Human-AI interaction for supporting clinical decision-making

5) AI transparency and explainability based on clinical and multimodal data

6) Technical and societal challenges associated with ambulatory monitoring for mental health

7) Ethical/legal/societal challenges pertaining AI technologies for mental health

8) AI regulations in mental health
