<p> CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
<br>
<strong>CITEC Summer School 2016 on Adaptive Systems</strong></p>
<p>CITEC, Bielefeld University, Germany, 27th-30th of September 2016<br>
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</p>
<br>
Dear young researchers, <br>
<br>
The CITEC Summer School 2016 is dedicated to the topic of Adaptive
Systems: <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="https://www.cit-ec.de/summerschool">https://www.cit-ec.de/summerschool</a><br>
<br>
Adaptivity is the key for coping with tasks or environments whose
properties cannot be completely known beforehand - a frequent
characteristic of real world situations challenging artificial
agents, real robots or biological organisms alike. <br>
<br>
We offer you an interdisciplary mesh of courses held by an
interdisciplinary team of researchers from the Excellence Center
Cognitive Interaction Technology to acquaint you with current ideas
and research about adaptivity, its foundations, analysis and its
synthesis in artificial systems. <br>
<p>This year's topic is organized into four major thematic areas:</p>
<p>(A) Adaptive Motion </p>
<p>(B) Multimodal Learning and Social Interaction </p>
<p> </p>
<p>(C) Deep Approaches to Relevance Learning</p>
<p> </p>
<p>(D) Embodiment and Neuromorpic Learning Systems </p>
<br>
Most of the courses provide the opportunity for hands-on experience,
involving experiments or data sets captured in CITEC research labs.
You are asked to choose one out of this four. They are complemented
by talks of leading invited and local experts. <br>
<p> Invited speakers include: </p>
<p> </p>
<ul>
<li>
<p><strong>Ralph Etienne-Cummings</strong><strong><span>, </span></strong>Johns
Hopkins University, USA</p>
<p> </p>
</li>
<li>
<p><strong>Kerstin Fischer</strong><strong><span>, </span></strong>University
of Southern Denmark</p>
<p> </p>
</li>
<li>
<p><strong>Christian Igel</strong>, University of Copenhagen,
Denmark</p>
<p> </p>
</li>
<li>
<p><strong>Andrew B. Schwartz</strong>, University of
Pittsburgh, USA</p>
</li>
</ul>
<br>
Beyond the courses and the talks of the speakers, attendance will
provide you with ample opportunities for discussions, exchange of
ideas with your peers and the participating researchers, and for
learning more about CITEC. <br>
<br>
The Summer School continues a series of highly successful CITEC
Summer Schools started in 2010 and covering the topics of <span
lang="en-GB"><b>The Structure of Cognitive Motion: From Analysis
to Synthesis</b></span><span lang="en-GB"><span> (</span></span><span>2010),</span>
<b>Mechanisms of Attention - From Experimental Studies to Technical
Systems</b><span> (2011),</span> <b>Verbal and Non-verbal
Interaction: From Experiments to Implementation (</b>2012), and <b>Continuous
Learning in Living and Artificial Systems</b><span> (2013) </span>so
far.<br>
