In order to come up with a collaborative solution, a plan has to be interactively negotiated. This requires anticipation of further actions of the partner and the dynamic adaptation of ones own actions. The active roles of humans and systems change strategically during the ongoing interaction. Assistive systems, therefore, have to take into account actions and intentions as well as the affective state of the user and how this changes during the ongoing dialogue. Insights from neurobiology and behavioral research can provide modelling principles. Furthermore, cooperative settings with (multiple) humans and additional technical agents provide even more challenging scenarios, but these can lead to a better understanding of underlying principles that will lead to an enhancement of human-machine interaction. TOPICS OF INTEREST --------------------------- The goal of this Special Session is the understanding of the situated interaction in a surrounding of multiple interaction partners. This welcomes interdisciplinary contributions from signal processing, machine learning, human-machine systems research, behavioral / user modelling, design principles of human-machine interaction.
