Dear IVA list

Recently CereProc presented characterful speech synthesis at the Science
Museum Lates as part of the Royal Society 'Next Big Thing' project.

We ran a web based challenge for visitors where they had to guess whether
some speech audio was synthesised or from a real speaker. We also asked a
few questions about their view on speech synthesis.

I thought you would enjoy the challenge and find it helpful for getting a
modern view of speech synthesis. I also hoped you might briefly answer the
same questions we asked in the science museum to get a comparision between
expert IVA researchers and the 'man in the street' :-)

The 'Bot or Not' challenge is at:

The questions, if you have time to answer and return to me are:

if you did the 'Bot or Not' challenge, what did you think?

What do you think of synthesizing famous people's voices?

How would you feel about having a synthetic version of your own voice?

What do you think synthetic voices should sound like? Should we aim for as
human-like as possible or is robotic better?

What did you learn from the challenge?
