The Robotics Department at the Institute for Infocomm Research, A*STAR, Singapore, invites applications for multiple research scientist/engineer positions in driverless car and robotics. We offer highly competitive remuneration, leave and welfare package which is commensurate with the experience of each applicant. Details on each position can be found below.

Applications will be reviewed until the positions are filled. Interested applicants are requested to submit:
* A cover letter
* A curriculum vitae that includes the name, address and email of 2 referees
to wuy (at) i2r.a-star.edu.sg as soon as possible. Shortlisted candidates will be notified through email for interview.

POSITION 1/2: Scientist/Engineer (Driverless Car)
============================================================================
JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department developed its first driverless car and was successful tested in Singapore at the One North testbed in 2015. Due to the popularity of this research area, we are seeking candidates with passion to conduct R&D in this new and exciting area. You will be part of our team developing intelligent system for autonomous vehicle (AV). Specifically, the focus will be on enhancing the AV to be able to have smooth driving capability in Singapore's crowded urban traffic, weather and environmental conditions.

Research challenges of interest to us includes but are not limited to:
- Multi-modal fusion combining lidar and vision for robust localization and perception, including under adverse weather condition
- Deep learning based solution for robust object detection and understanding, including pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists, and to provide fast response while maintaining low error rate.
- Understanding the threat level to the AV's movement for the objects detected in the surrounding
- Navigation behaviour of the AV given uncertainties associated to the location and detected objects in the surrounding
- Specific behaviour of the AV such as moving and parking at tight spots, roundabouts, traffic jams etc.
- Robust system integration with failure recovery
- Automated reliability testing
- New sensors suitable for AV
- Specific behaviour of the AV such as moving and parking at tight spots, roundabouts, traffic jams etc.
- Specific focus of the Scientist position is in multi-modal perception fusion to achieve robust perception for AV navigation.
- Specific focus of the Engineer position is in development and implementation of faster inference using deep learning on multi-modal perception fusion and other results to control the AV.

You are also expected to assist in data collection, testing and integration into the our AV platform and extending to other platforms, as well as software verification and reliability testing.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- PhD (for Scientist position) / Masters in Robotics/Computer Engineering/Computer Science or related fields
- Experience in robotics, AV, deep learning, robotic vision or related areas will be useful.
- Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.
- Strong software development skills in C/C++, Python;
- Good knowledge on ROS, Linux and/or DDS related middleware;
- Experience with Tensor Flow, Theano, Caffe, or other deep learning tools
- Good knowledge/experience in system software-hardware integration
- Track record in delivering innovative projects successfully
- Able to work independently, yet possesses strong teamwork ethics with good interpersonal
