IEEE VR 2018 Call for VR Conference PapersIEEE VR 2018 seeks original,
high-quality *Conference Papers* in all areas related to virtual reality
(VR), including augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and 3D user
interfaces (3DUIs).Submission Deadlines

Each deadline is 23:59:59 AoE (Anywhere on Earth) == GMT/UTC-12:00 on the
stated day, no matter where the submitter is located.

**The submission deadlines will be strictly enforced. Requests for
extensions will not be considered**

November 16, 2017: Paper abstract due

November 22, 2017: Paper submissions due

IEEE VR 2018: the 25th IEEE Conference on Virtual Reality and 3D User
Interfaces

Continuing the tradition started at the 2015 IEEE Virtual Reality
Conference, we are holding a Doctoral Consortium (DC) event associated with
IEEE VR 2018.

The purpose of the DC is to provide a unique, interactive, supportive, and
prestigious mentoring opportunity for select Ph.D. students at any level.
This opportunity can make a significant difference by offering a valuable
opportunity to get the independent perspectives of senior individuals with
a collective breadth and depth of knowledge.
Doctoral Consortium Overview

The DC is a concentrated full-day event that will be held on *March 18th*,
2018, which will focus on presentations and discussions, followed by poster
presentations and networking opportunities on *March 19th*, 2018. Accepted
students will be expected to give in-depth presentations of their position
paper and receive constructive critiques from mentors. Information on
format and length of presentations will be provided at a later time to
accepted students. Accepted students will be expected to create a poster
about their work, to allow attendees to quickly familiarize themselves with
each other’s work, and to be shown during the conference poster session.
Accepted students will also be expected to finalize the position paper,
which should be revised based on feedback from the reviewers, into a
two-page extended abstract (references included) to be included in the
online IEEE VR program. The authors retain permission for future
publication in other venues.
DC Fellowships

Students are encouraged to seek funding from their institutions to
participate in the DC. Students who are selected will be eligible to apply
for funding through IEEE VR for complimentary full-conference registration
(entire VR2018 conference), Lodging, and Travel funds. Funding is being
worked out so we do not have more details as of yet. Students awarded this
financial support will be deemed eligible based on the submitted
application, funding constraints, and financial need.
Eligibility and Topics

Students may be at any stage in their Ph.D. studies. The DC welcomes
applicants from a broad range of disciplines including VR, AR, 3D user
interfaces, human-computer interaction, wearable computing, social
informatics, information technology, cognitive science, and related fields.
Position Paper Content

Applicants should submit a 1-2 page position paper detailing the progress
that has been made so far towards a Ph.D. dissertation. The length of the
position paper should reflect the progress that has been made. The DC
position paper must clearly motivate, discuss, and summarize the proposed
Ph.D. research, describe how the research fits into and advances research
in VR and/or related fields, and report on the work done so far. The
maximum length is two pages and formatting guidelines are described at
http://ieeevr.org/2018/contribute/formatting.html. References should be
included but are not counted towards the two-page maximum.

Ph.D. students, which have only recently started their studies, should
focus their discussion on research interests, research questions, and any
ideas that they have for narrowing down their dissertation topic. More
advanced Ph.D. students should discuss their dissertation topic in more
depth which may include but is not limited to: data collected, results,
shortfalls, proposed next steps, etc. Ph.D. students closer to graduation
should discuss their dissertation topic in depth and proposed research for
their career which may include but is not limited to focused research
interests, proposed work they would include in a research statement, etc.

Review Process

All submissions to the DC will undergo a thorough reviewing process with
the goal to providing constructive feedback. The best suited submissions
will be selected for presentation both at the DC and at the poster session.
Submissions will be chosen with an emphasis on diversity of topics,
participants, approaches, and institutions. Please contact the program
chairs if any assistance is needed in preparing an application.
Best Presentation Award

The best presentation at the DC will be honored with the prestigious DC
Award. The award will be handed over during the IEEE VR 2018 Award Ceremony
on March 22nd, 2018.
