The ACM/IEEE International Conference on Human-Robot Interaction is a premier, highly-selective venue presenting the latest advances in Human-Robot Interaction. The 15th Annual HRI conference theme is "Real World Human-Robot Interaction". The conference seeks contributions from a broad set of perspectives, including technical, design, behavioural, theoretical, methodological, and metrological, that advance fundamental and applied knowledge and methods in human-robot interaction.


Late-Breaking Reports

The Late-Breaking Reports (LBR) venue at HRI provides authors with the opportunity to present their work and receive feedback over exciting cutting-edge and experimental research to the community. It is also an excellent opportunity for researchers new to the field to participate in the conference.

All LBR submissions will undergo blind peer-review and will be published in the companion proceedings of the conference, and will appear in both the ACM Digital Library and IEEE Xplore. The authors will not retain the copyright of their work. LBRs will be presented at a poster session during the main conference.

We invite videos related to all aspects of HRI. The videos must be self-explanatory for the audience, of scientific relevance, and fun to watch. A peer review process will judge videos on content, lessons learned, novelty, and entertainment value. Accepted video abstracts will be published in the companion proceedings of the conference and archived in the ACM Digital Library and IEEE Xplore. Student Design Competition

For this year’s 15th Annual HRI Conference, we are continuing the Student Design Competition. The competition has two primary goals:

To provide graduate, undergraduate, and high school students with a hands-on introduction to HRI through a team-based design project.
To engage students of diverse backgrounds working in technical, art/design, or social science disciplines.

Building upon this year’s conference theme of real world human-robot interaction, student teams will develop interactive robotic objects to be interacted with in everyday life. We encourage teams to identify and focus on a particular interaction context, develop their own interactive robotic objects, and create scenarios that illustrate how their robots fit within the lives of the humans involved. The competition therefore focuses less on demonstrations of technical proficiency, and more on the design of compelling interactions that inspire, surprise, and delight.

alt.HRI invites high-quality submissions that push the boundaries of human-robot interaction research and that have high potential for impact. The goal for alt.HRI is to broaden the scope of research presented at HRI 2020. With this in mind, alt.HRI aims to be inclusive of perspectives and methodologies relevant to HRI but perhaps less commonly seen at the annual HRI conference, including strong HRI-related work from other fields. We also invite creative and thought-provoking work that might not otherwise be featured at the conference because it transcends established contribution criteria. Submissions will be rigorously peer-reviewed, in a double-blind fashion.

To invite wider multi-cultural diversity of contributions,** alt.HRI will accept paper submissions in authors’ native languages in the initial review phase. Authors must e-mail the alt.HRI chairs with their intention to submit non-English work no later than November 10**, along with optional suggestions for potential reviewers with the desired language ability. The chairs cannot guarantee full reviews in any native language, so Non-English submissions must include an English-translated version attached for English-speaking reviewers, and the two versions must be sufficiently identical in content. Accepted papers are expected to orally presented in the main program and will be archived in the ACM Digital Library and IEEE Xplore Digital Library.
