Furhat Robotics is a partner in a new Marie Curie International Training
Network (ITN) called e-LADDA (https://www.ntnu.edu/e-ladda). You will
enroll as a PhD student with University of Manchester, but spend most of
your time at Furhat Robotics in Stockholm, with shorter secondments (3 x 1
month) with other partners in the consortium, creating excellent
opportunities for international experience and networking. Your supervisors
will be Prof. Gabriel Skantze at Furhat Robotics and Prof. Angelo Cangelosi
at University of Manchester.

Your specific research topic will be around language teaching through an
interactive social robot, potentially involving both typically developed
children as well as children with autism spectrum disorder. This will
involve both the design and implementation of the language learning
application, as well as conducting user studies. The PhD is expected to
take 3 years.

Due to the requirements for ITN projects, you are not allowed to have lived
in Sweden more than 12 months during the last 3 years. We can unfortunately
not accept applicants outside of EU.

You should have a Master degree (or similar) in a subject relevant for the
research, such as computer science, language technology, or cognitive
science. You are expected to have good skills in programming, and knowledge
in experimental methods and statistics. Experience in education or language
learning is a plus. You must have good command of English and be able to
write scientific publications, as well as presenting your work orally.
