The Digital Linguistics Lab (Head: JProf. Dr.-Ing. Hendrik Buschmeier) at Bielefeld University is seeking to fill a research associate position (E13 TV-L, 65%, fixed-term) in the area of computational modelling of dialogue and spoken interaction.

We work interdisciplinarily (linguistics, computer science, and computational linguistics) and develop interactive models of dialogue phenomena (e.g., reference, feedback, politeness), which we assess in interaction between humans and conversational agents.

# PhD-student position (f/m/d) in “Digital Linguistics”

## Your tasks

- Scientific collaboration on research projects of the Digital Linguistics group in the research area “Dialogue and Spontaneous Linguistic Interaction” (70%):
	- Conducting experiments
	- Computational modelling
	- Implementation and evaluation of computational models with virtual and robotic conversational agents 
	- Preparation of scientific publications
	- Presentation of research results at conferences
	- Participation in the establishment and supervision of an interaction laboratory
- Participation in the courses offered or co-supervised by the Department of Linguistics (25%):
	- Preparation and implementation of teaching to the extent of 2.6 course hours
	- Supervision of students and Bachelor's and Master's theses, including the taking of examinations
- Participation academic self-administration (5 %)

## What we expect

- completed university studies (e.g., Master) in a relevant field (e.g., linguistics, computational linguistics, cognitive science, computer science)
- PhD project in the field of computational modelling of linguistic phenomena in dialogue
- experience in formal, computational or statistical modelling
- good programming skills (e.g., Python)
- good knowledge of statistics (R)
- very good written and spoken English
- independent, self-reliant and committed way of working
- high communication skills
- distinct ability to cooperate and work in a team
- strong organizational and coordination skills
- strong presentation and moderation skills

## What we are looking for

- experience in university teaching
- experience with current methods and procedures in computational linguistics
- German language skills (or the willingness to learn German within one year)

## Our offer

The remuneration is based on pay group 13 of the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV-L). The position is limited to a period of three years according to § 2 paragraph 1 sentence 1 WissZeitVG. There is an option to extend the contract for a further two years (in accordance with the provisions of the WissZeitVG and the contract on good employment conditions, a different contract term may apply in individual cases). The employment is conducive to scientific qualification. This is a part-time position at 65% of full employment. Upon request, it is also possible to fill a position on a smaller scale, unless there are compelling official reasons for not doing so in individual cases.
