no, I recommend to convert your data beforehand. This could be done with MarcEdit <https://marcedit.reeset.net/> or on the command line with yaz-marcdump <https://software.indexdata.com/yaz/doc/yaz-marcdump.html>:

$ yaz-marcdump -f MARC-8 -t UTF-8 -o marc -l 9=97 marc21.raw >marc21.utf8.raw
