PhD Positions in Artificial intelligence, Virtual Reality, and Multimodal Signal Processing

The Department of Computer Science (http://cs.siu.edu <http://cs.siu.edu/>) at Southern Illinois University (http://siu.edu <http://siu.edu/>) seeking highly motivated and creative students who are eager to get involved in cutting edge research. Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Informatics, or Computer Engineering and have a solid background on Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, HCI, and Multimodal Signal Processing. We are looking for individuals motivated to pursue research under the project Multimodal Virtual Reality Interaction with Intelligent Virtual Characters. The positions are part of the newly funded Graphics & Entertainment Technology Lab.

In SIU we will focus on developing novel techniques for synthesizing the social interaction abilities of the virtual characters (both understanding the multimodal signals of the human, as well as synthesizing the appropriate responses for the character using artificial intelligence techniques). We are also aiming on understanding the way that humans interact with intelligent virtual characters within virtual worlds. The successful candidates will contribute to the research and teaching of the department.

Candidates should have a solid background in artificial intelligence, and virtual reality. Excellent programming skills in C++ or C# are expected and experience in Unity3D, HMM, Behavior or Monte Carlo Search Trees, is a plus. Fluent communication skills in English are essential.
