23rd of March, 2020, Cambridge, UK

CALL FOR PAPERS

** Paper Submission Deadline: 14th of February, 2019

** Keynote Speakers:

Prof. Angelo Cangelosi, University of Manchester
"Developmental robotics for theory of mind and trust"

 Prof. Bertram Malle, Brown University
"Is reading the mind of a robot like staring into a one-way mirror?“

** Call for papers:
In the context of the ACM/IEEE International Conference on Human-Robot Interaction HRI 2020, we invite researchers from multiple disciplines to submit papers for the workshop “Mind reading and social attunement in human-robot interaction”. The workshop aims at understanding the role of attribution of mental states to artificial agents in human-agent interaction, and specifically the quality and presence of social attunement mechanisms that are known to make human interaction smooth, efficient, and robust. From cognitive neuroscience to computational and clinical approaches, the workshop seeks to carefully examine the question of how and when humans employ mentalistic strategies to understand and predict robot’s behavior, and how this might affect interaction not only among healthy neurotypical users but also those with social cognition deficits (e.g., ASD,

We invite position papers no longer than 500 words (pdf or word, free format, excluding references). For each accepted position paper, a 15 min talk would be assigned. The papers must include either empirical results, a theoretical discussion or a design of a computational model related to the main topic. The paper should also have an opinion section stating if/how attribution of mental states might play a crucial role (or not) in social interaction with artificial agents. We encourage the applicants to show how multidisciplinary approaches facilitate progress in studying the key question of the workshop. Submissions would be selected on the basis of quality and relevance to the topics of the workshop.

Please submit papers via email to: mindreadinghri at iit.it
