Dear HAI community and researchers,
Our sympathy and care goes out to all those affected by COVID-19 all across
the world. At this time, many of you would be thinking about the impact on
HAI2020.
Considering the current circumstances, the impact of the pandemic and
ongoing travel bans,* HAI2020 will now be held in virtual/online mode in
the originally scheduled dates of November 10-13, 2020*. The exact format
and schedule will be announced in due course. To allow authors to recover
from disruptions, we also plan to announce an extension to the submission
deadline for both full papers and poster submissions. Unfortunately,
workshops will not go ahead due to the logistics. We will also announce a
revised registration structure taking into account the new format of the
conference. In a new measure, we also hope to provide authors of full
papers with an opportunity to submit extended versions of their accepted
full papers towards a special issue of a journal.
Details of all the afore-mentioned will be announced very soon. Meanwhile,
please get behind HAI2020, support HAI research, and consider submitting
your work to the conference.
If you have any questions please do get in touch with us.

(Apologies for cross posting)
HAI 2020 is the 8th annual International Conference on Human-Agent
Interaction. The conference is a venue with an interdisciplinary nature to
discuss and disseminate state-of-the-art research on topics that relate to
human interactions with a range of agent systems, including physical robots
and humanoids, virtual agents, socially interactive agents, and
artificially intelligent agents.
The topical issues within the conference include user studies, frameworks,
simulations, technical developments and more within the area of Human Agent
and Robotic Interaction. The conference brings together a large variety of
research groups, companies and researchers looking into the broader area of
agents and robotics across Australia and the rest of the world.
The theme for HAI 2020 will be “Artificial Intelligence + Experience Design”.
The advent of artificial intelligence, in the past decade, has motivated
researchers to focus on several algorithmic prospects in developing
intelligent robotics agent and their interactions. Progressively, AI
advances are leading to exciting outcomes in the HAI field and at the same
time opening up a wide perspective on how to design intelligent robotic
agents. Particularly, how to combine artificial intelligence and user
experience design approaches in human-agent interaction.
While all submissions related to HAI are welcome, prospective authors are
especially encouraged to submit papers in line with the theme for HAI 2020.
The HAI conference seeks contributions from a broad range of disciplines
such as engineering, computer science, psychology, sociology, cognitive
science, business, advertising/marketing and design.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
- studies of Human-Agent Interaction, with quantitative/qualitative
results; across a wide variety of application areas
- theoretical models;
- technological advances;
- experimental methods;
- impacts of embodiment;
- character and avatar design;
- agents in social networks;
- specifically application of agents in retail, business and marketing and
- experience design
Since 2014, full papers and posters are archived in the ACM Digital
Library, and 2020 is in the process of achieving a similar status.
