The International Symposium on Algorithms, Medicine and Ethics (iSAME’26)

We are pleased to announce that iSAME – The International Symposium on Algorithms, Medicine and Ethics will take place, addressing the tactical care of people through joint action between humans and machines in the safety and security environment.

The symposium is aimed at both scientists and practitioners involved in technological development in the context of intelligent tactical capabilities for medical care. This includes the monitoring, medical care and evacuation of infectious, injured and contaminated persons and the ethical and technological implications thereof. The aim of the symposium is to promote exchange between expert groups from science and practice through various lecture and discussion formats. The symposium is aimed at all stakeholders, researchers and decision-makers from institutes, associations, federations and other organisations involved in safety and security issues relating to hazard prevention.

With lectures, panel discussions, poster presentations and workshops, it bears witness to the great variety of a modern and digital European rescue system.

We invite you to submit original, high-quality contributions in the following categories:

  *   Papers
  * Posters (current work) | Image material | Demos
  *   Workshops | Tutorials

The submission topics include, but are not limited to:

Medical Ethics & Technology:

  * Safety, security, risk, and emergency management – How to prioritize life, minimize damage, establish clear rules for operations, and weigh risks and benefits.
  * Telemedicine, remote diagnostics, and field diagnostics – Access to medical care in crisis areas, data protection, and system reliability.
  * Robotics and autonomous systems – robot-compatible support, drone technology, autonomous medical devices; ethical questions regarding control, responsibility, sources of error, and dehumanization.
  * Artificial intelligence in diagnostics and decision support – transparency, explainability, bias avoidance, responsibility for incorrect recommendations in high-risk situations.
  * Patient sovereignty, data protection, and data security – protection of sensitive health data in military contexts, GDPR-like requirements, access controls.
  * Conflict and crisis ethics in research – ethical standards for studies in extreme situations, consent, vulnerability of population groups.
  * Neurotechnology and brain-computer interfaces – potential for healing vs. misuse, long-term consequences, safety.
  * Personalized medicine – benefits and ethical risks in specialized application scenarios, fairness in access to advanced medicine.
  * Sustainability, environmental and resource ethics – Environmental impact of medical technologies in areas of application, disposal, material consumption.
  * Governance, regulation, and accountability – Who is liable for malfunctions in autonomous medical systems?

The iSAME consortium also invites selected authors of contributions to publish their results in the interdisciplinary book series Military and Humanitarian Health Ethics (https://link.springer.com/series/16133) by Springer Nature.

We are looking forward to your contributions!
